The New Year is a great time for making positive changes in one’s life. Another great time to make a change is after a move! After moving to San Antonio, you have the perfect opportunity to make positive changes last in your life. Marking a new year and new beginnings, you can start changing for the better by changing your diet. All My Sons Moving & Storage would like to share this list of healthy food habits to consider taking on this year.

Add more green! This small change can make a large impact on your life. Add a little bit of green to every meal to ensure that you are getting the nutrition that your body needs.

Skip the fried food. Go a few weeks without any fried food and see how your body feels. After you cut it out for a couple weeks, your body is sure to cut the cravings. If you do not wish to cut out all fried foods, keep them down to a minimum.

Drink plenty of water. We hear it all the time, however; drinking as much water as we should seems like such a task. While moving to San Antonio and throughout other strenuous and tiring activities, it is important to be sufficiently hydrated.

You do not have to cut out the foods you love! One of the best healthy eating habits is to continue indulging in your guilty pleasures or the food that may not be so good for you. However, the trick is to keep it at a minimum and in small portions. Proper nutrition is a lifestyle, not a diet!

The New Year has come! This is the time when people like to kick the bad habits and work on creating new and positive ones. Whether you have just moved, finally settled in, or are a new resident, these tips to starting the New Year off right will benefit any home. All My Sons Moving & Storage South San Antonio local movers are the moving experts here to help you with your home’s New Year makeover.

Organize – Organize your home from top to bottom. South San Antonio local movers suggest spending an entire day or two reorganizing your home. Make it a point to do touch-ups at least once a month. Set an organization day and stick to it! Doing this once a month will help keep your home neat, and also help you sift through things and tackle projects you may otherwise put off.

Cleaning Habits – It is time to change those pesky cleaning habits! Set daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning goals to help keep your home looking and feeling pristine. It is hard to argue that a clean home is a happy home.

Purge – After the holidays, everyone seems to have more stuff than they did before they began. Make room for your new gifts and possessions by clearing out some of the old ones. While you are organizing, make it a point to head into your closet and try on some items that you have not worn in a while. Donating some of your old clothes, shoes, or other various household items will free up some of your space while helping you to give back to your community.

Getting the Whole Family on Board – Doing these tasks will be much easier if the entire family is on board. Set some days to get the work done and make it fun! Play some music and go out to a family dinner afterwards. Implement a system that works for you!

Rideshare companies like Uber, Lyft and Sidecar are here to stay. Earlier this month, the San Antonio city council voted to allow rideshare apps to remain legal within the city. This is good news for anyone who plans to spend their night out on New Year’s in South San Antonio. Our professional movers spend a lot of time on the road, and we know how dangerous it can be during the holiday season.

This is a landmark decision for all of San Antonio. After almost three years of citizens arguing in support of rideshare companies, San Antonio council members locked in debate over the merit and safety of these apps. Just in time for New Year’s in South San Antonio, it was finally announced that they can continue to operate in the city on the condition that the ridesharing apps consider fingerprinting as part of background checks within the next year.

Like most companies, from police officers to professional movers, background checks are mandatory and usually require fingerprinting. Ridesharing apps like Uber and Lyft do thorough background checks but do not require fingerprinting.

Community members point to a decreasing number of drunk driving incidents as a positive effect that these apps have had on the community, and with New Years’ in South San Antonio just around the corner, apps like these are likely to save lives.

The professional movers at All My Sons Moving & Storage wish you a safe, happy, and fun-filled New Year’s celebration. Stay safe and don’t drink and drive.

Every year, there seems to be an “it” toy. Years ago, it was the Tickle Me Elmo, other years it has been gaming systems, and this year it is the Hatchimal. What is a Hatchimal? Good question. For those who are not familiar with the toy, it is a small, furry animal that “hatches” from an egg and learns skills as it ages. Kids this holiday season are going crazy over the Hatchimal, and San Antonio is feeling the effects of this craze.

Hatchimals run for $59.99, but because of their immense demand, they are being sold for almost four times that amount. Shoppers are gearing up as the Hatchimal trend is moving to San Antonio, and toy stores are bracing for the storm. Parents across the country have been lining up at stores the night before they open, scouring the internet, and doing just about anything they can to get their hands on a Hatchimal this holiday season.

While toy crazes are known to come and go, i.e. Tickle Me Elmo, demand for the Hatchimal has outpaced that of the Nintendo NES Classic Edition Console, another top toy of Christmas 2016.

As the Hatchimal is moving to San Antonio, retailers are getting ready for the frenzy and making sure that every top toy of Christmas 2016 is thoroughly stocked on their shelves as much as supply can meet the demand.

As the holidays are drawing nearer, if you are on the hunt for a Hatchimal, some are being sold on third party vendors websites, like Amazon, but their prices are almost four times the original price.

A few South San Antonio neighborhoods are updating the look, feel, and function of their streets this winter season. Members of our South San Antonio moving company are happy to see these improvements, and like other residents, we are excited to see the changes completed soon! So, what’s changing?

For starters, the Southside district is getting some much-needed improvements to the roads and sidewalks to make it safer for families in the neighborhood. The city is investing $1.4 million to improvements of the elementary and middle schools in South San Antonio neighborhoods.

Many of our South San Antonio moving company employees live and work in these neighborhoods, and we are glad to see that safety is a priority!

Southtown has recently underwent a transformation. It has become a hotspot in the center of our South San Antonio neighborhood, and it is attracting people from all over the city. There’s carts, there’s food, but there’s no parking. Unfortunately, these visitors are spilling over into South San Antonio neighborhoods and parking in front of houses, blocking driveways.

To combat this, the city is working on creating new parking structures to accommodate the influx of visitors while setting up heavy fines for those who are parking around the neighborhood. Eventually, fines will lead to towing enforcement if the city believes that the message is not getting across to visitors.

Expanding cities have some growing pains and they are good issues to have. South San Antonio is growing, which is good for the whole community and the local movers.

As the holidays are nearing, lights are beginning to go up everywhere possible. Houses, light poles along streets, there are even displays set up for the sole purpose of people driving through them. There is something about lights that make the holiday season that much more special, and the San Antonio Riverwalk is not immune to this trend. In fact, every year, the lights go up in November and are up until the end of December.

The San Antonio Riverwalk does not just put up lights around the holiday season, there are also numerous holiday celebrations for you and your family to enjoy after moving to San Antonio.

The day after Thanksgiving, the Riverwalk is lit with thousands of lights and decorated floats make their way down the river.

Then, from December second through the 18th this year, there is the Ford Fiesta de las Luminarias, where the Riverwalk is lined with paper bags filled with sand and a flameless candle, symbolizing the “lighting of the way” for the holy family. It is a centuries old tradition that still takes place every holiday season on the beautifully illuminated San Antonio Riverwalk.

There is also the Ford Holiday Boat Caroling from November 30 through December 23. Groups like church choirs and folk groups take to boats on the river and carol. It is a free event to watch, and Riverwalk goers can sing along with the carols.

Make sure to check out these events with your family this holiday season after moving to San Antonio.

San Antonio is known for a lot. The River Walk, the Alamo, South Texas culture, there is so much. For the foodies out there San Antonio is also known for something very unique, Lulu’s Bakery and Café. For those who are not familiar with Lulu’s Bakery and Café, it is located in San Antonio and has a classic diner feel. Black and white checkered floors, a bar that spans almost the entire length of the restaurant, and a menu to match, Lulu’s feels very comfortable, like you have been there a thousand times even if you just moved to San Antonio.

If Lulu’s is the type of place where you feel like you have been there a thousand times, what makes it so unique? That would be a three and a half pound cinnamon roll. As seen on the TV show Man vs. Food back in 2009, the cinnamon roll is a force to be reckoned with.

When you order this famous behemoth of a cinnamon roll, you might start to question how heavy three and a half pounds really is. It cannot be that big, right? Wrong. You quickly realize when it comes out just how big a three and a half pound cinnamon roll really is. It is about the size of your head, and for a cinnamon roll, that is pretty big.

Going to Lulu’s Bakery and Café is an experience that gets a lot of foodies moving to San Antonio to try the infamous cinnamon roll. It is worth every second of the trip.

Spend Christmas in South San Antonio this year and do it right! If you have just moved to South San Antonio then you are in for some great holiday celebrations this year. Our South San Antonio movers have listed their favorite Christmas traditions in the city here for your reference.

The Holiday Magic: Festival of Lights

On December 10 and 11, everyone in South San Antonio is at the Holiday Magic: Festival of Lights celebration at Retama Park. It’s a time where all cultures are celebrated and when Christmas in South San Antonio gets multi-cultural. A favorite of our South San Antonio movers!

The Lighted Christmas Parade

How about a chance to meet Santa and shop for the unique and original bohemian style gifts in old Helotes while you watch a parade? The Lighted Christmas Parade starts at 3 p.m. on December 10. If you miss the parade, you can still visit the area and take the kids to meet Santa.

Ford Fiesta de las Luminarias

Christmas in South San Antonio wouldn’t be the same if not for the luminaries on the San Antonio River. From December 2 – 18, more than 6,000 luminaries will illuminate the river. It is one of the most beautiful things you can see this holiday season and highly recommended by our South San Antonio movers.

Zoo Lights

The San Antonio Zoo will showcase holiday spirit this year with lights and decorations. You can spend Christmas in South San Antonio by getting a little more in touch with your wild side!

Schlitterbahn New Braunfels is one of the highest rated water parks, especially in Texas. Located just a short drive from San Antonio, it is the perfect day trip to take with the family after moving to San Antonio. As it starts to cool off in South Texas and the holidays are starting to roll around, it can be nice to day dream about warmer days, floating the lazy river.

With more than 70 acres, heated pools, more water slides than you know what to do with, and a lazy river that goes for days, it is almost impossible to get bored. Not to mention, there are options for the whole family. Schlitterbahn has multiple sections of the park dedicated to the kids who are just a little bit too small to ride the big kid rides, rides for the adventurous in your family, poolside bars for those who are of legal drinking age, and a lazy river for those who want to float the day away after a long day of moving to San Antonio. When it comes to fun for the entire family, Schlitterbahn truly has it all.

While there are Schlitterbahns all over the state of Texas, the New Braunfels location is not only the original, it is the best. Water slides that drop so fast you float in the air for a split second, a lazy river that takes you all around the park, and fun for the entire family, Schlitterbahn really has it all.

As it starts to cool off, and the cold weather starts moving to San Antonio, it is almost natural to think about the warmer summer days that can be spend at Schlitterbahn New Braunfels. Living so close to one of the best water parks in the state of Texas definitely has its perks.
